KB09092201 Sending Log FilesDisk Logs Logging to disk files
Mailtraq logs all activity by default.
The Disk Log, configured on the Logging tab of the Options | Server Properties dialog, provides a semi-permanent record of all Mailtraq activity which is written to file in real time.
The default location is at C:\Program Files (X86)\Mailtraq, one file per day in the format LOG_31.TXT, over-written on a monthly cycle.
Your server may have a custom location - as indicated in this illustration.
For more information about the Event Log see here
Sending the Event Log
Mailtraq also writes serious problems it encounters to this log, and marks the problem with the word Exception in the log entry.
If you are asked by Mailtraq Support to send a copy of the Event Log, please follow this method.
Sending a Log Extract
- Open the Disk Log file (using MS Notepad), select the lines you are enquiring about plus approximately 2 minutes before and after the event, and copy them.
- Paste the log extract into a new Notepad file.
- Attach the file to an email and send it to support@enstar.net with an explanation
- If the extract concerns an Exception noted in the log, be sure to also include a copy of the file called mailtraq.exc which you will find in the folder where Mailtraq is installed - normally C:\Program Files\Mailtraq
This file provides details of the Exceptions raised.
Sending a complete Log File
- Take the day's log file - normally in the format: LOG_12.TXT
(where the number is the day-of-the-month) - and Zip the file. - Attach the file to an email and send it to support@enstar.net with an explanation.
Expanded Exception Logging
- If there is an Exception noted in the log, be sure to also include a copy of the file called mailtraq.exc or MailtraqService.exc which you will find in the folder where Mailtraq is installed - normally
C:\Program Files\Mailtraq This file provides details of the Exceptions raised.
Sending very large files - > 2MB
If the resulting zipped log file is too large to easily send by email, you may use one of the online large file sending services, such as TransferBigFiles to get it to support@enstar.net .
