KB12052301 Connecting Fax/Voicemail to Email System

The anti-abuse controls in Mailtraq will often prevent external devices from 'relaying' messages through Mailtraq.

You can resolve the problem by ensuring that the device authenticates correctly as an external user, on a service set up in Mailtraq for SMTP-AUTH

Step 1:
First create the appropriate service in Mailtraq.
This is an additional SMTP Auth service on 587 and is described here:
http://info.mailtraq.com/allow-relaying

Step 2:
Then set your fax/phone machine to send to Mailtraq.
If possible set the Mail Host to be the local IP address of the Mailtraq machine, plus 587 - like this:

192.168.2.10:587

This avoids DNS look up problems.

If possible set the fax machine FROM to be something @ your domain:
for example - faxmachine@mydomain.com

Test:

Then test, and watch the connection through the live Event Log - you will see any error messages there, or rejections and then can adjust the settings if necessary.
