Reading email - EWA

To read your email you must first have logged in to the WebMail system.

Learn how to enable IE Mode in Microsoft Edge ...

Your email is arranged in Folders. Unless you have setup any Filters, new emails will appear in your Inbox folder.

When you log in to WebMail you are taken to your Inbox. You can return to your Inbox at any time by clicking  'Inbox' in the folder list on the left.

EWA presents you with three panes:

Tree-view
Folder Contents
Preview Pane

You can change the arrangement of Folder Contents and Preview from the View menu.

The panes are resizable: click and drag the pane divider. It is possible to hide the Preview Pane by dragging the divider all the way to the side/bottom.

EWA will automatically preview the first message when a folder is opened. If you do not want EWA to do this you can set your preference in Tools | Options | Mail Settings

Mailtraq will automatically block images in the email to help protect your privacy. If you want to see the images, simply click as indicated.

Clicking on a message in the Folder Contents view will display the message in the Preview Pane.

You can work within the three-pane view, or if you prefer, you can open your email messages in new windows by double-clicking on the message in the Folder Contents view: the message will open in a new window.

You can change folders by clicking on the Folder name in the Tree-view

If a message is Unread in the Folder View it will be marked in bold, and with a closed envelope icon.
The message currently being read will be highlighted in gray, and have an open envelope icon.
A message that you have previously read, or previewed, will have a white background, and an open envelope icon.

Back at the Tree View , the folders will show a count of the Unread messages.

In this example, there are three unread messages in the Inbox: the folder name confirms the number of unread messages (3) in brackets.

If you don't want to read some messages, you can Delete them by right-clicking on them in the folder view and selecting 'Delete' from the right-click menu.

Alternatively, you can select the message in the Folder View, then select the X 'Delete' from the toolbar.

The messages will be moved to the 'Deleted Items' folder, and they can be purged from there later.

You can also use the right-click menu to Move or Copy a message from one folder to another.

EWA supports Windows conventions for multiple selection (Control+Click for a selection, and Shift+Click for a range).

Reading messages that have been archived

The system is usually set to expire messages from the active mailbox after a fixed period of time and transfer them to a matching archive Mailbox.
The System Administrator can decide whether or not to allow users direct access to their mail archive. If you do not see 'My Archive' then you must ask your Admin to locate archived messages for you and transfer them into your active mailbox.

Read about Archiving for background.

Users can browse their Archive from EWA webmail.
"My Archive" is displayed on the tree on the left if :

[x]  " Allow users to access their mailslot archives "

is checked in the webmail 'admin' section, Search Message Contents-tab.

Users can then use the "Copy" command, say to their Inbox or a folder created for this purpose, to get mail out of an archive but they are not permitted to modify the archive content by editing or deleting messages.
